CIRCLEVILLE - Registration for a free program designed to help parents improve their parenting skills and help their children is now being accepted.

The Pickaway County Family & Children First Council, in partnership with the Pickaway County Educational Service Center and the Pickaway County Family YMCA, is presenting the Incredible Years parenting program, funded by the Ohio Children's Trust Fund.

Kim Martin, executive director of Family & Children First, said the program is a great opportunity for parents to develop an approach to parenting that will last a lifetime.

Open to parents of children ages 3 to 6, participants will learn how to strengthen children's social skills, emotional regulation, school readiness and problem-solving skills, while also helping to boost parenting skills.

The 14-week program will begin Thursday, March 5, and meet from 6 to 8 p.m. every Thursday through June 4. Classes will be held at the Pickaway County Family YMCA, 440 Nicholas Dr., Circleville. Free dinner and childcare will be provided for participants.

Martin said working with the ESC and the Y is an exciting opportunity for everyone involved.

"When the community works together, children always win," Martin said.

Jeff Phillips, executive director of the Pickaway County Family YMCA, agreed, saying, "This is another example of the Y collaborating with the community to provide services."

Registration is required and space is limited. To register, call Martin at (740) 474-7529, ext. 10416, or send an email to pickaway.fcfc@pickawayesc.org.
