Glen M. Jones

Glen M. Jones, 87, of Circleville, passed away July 2, 2015.

He was born in Circleville, the son of H.L. Russell and Thelma (George) Jones.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents; and his loving wife, Marjorie June Jones (2011).

He is survived by his sons, Brad (Debbie) Jones of Ashville and Scott (Julie Finley) Jones of New Albany, Indiana; granddaughters, Elisha (Dan Gregory) Jones, Ashley Jones and Jill (Eric) Wack; grandsons, Andrew (Katie) Jones and Daniel (Arwen) Declan; brother-in-law, John Lanman of New Baltimore, Michigan; and several cousins. Glen will be missed by many close friends and neighbors.

He was a graduate of Circleville High School in 1945. After school, he went on to serve his country in the United States Army (WWII) and in the National Guard. After WWII, he came back to Circleville to work at the Ford Garage, Clifton Auto Parts and Mid West Fabricating. He joined the Circleville Fire Department and stayed there for 27 years. During his career, he rose to the rank of Acting Fire Chief in 1974 and then retired as a Lieutenant. He also had started several businesses, including Jones Automotive Service, S and J Auto Salvage, Jones Fire Extinguisher Service and Express Trucking.

He enjoyed anything with a motor such as cars, boats, motorcycles and airplanes. He was an accomplished private pilot. He was also a member of the pit crew for a 1962 team at the Daytona 500. His passion for NASCAR continued throughout his life by watching and attending races.

Glen was a member of Community United Methodist Church, Masonic Blue Lodge and Odd Fellows.

Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2015, and 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home, 151 E. Main St., Circleville. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at the funeral home with Jack Abels and Pastor Tad Grover officiating. A procession to Forest Cemetery will be led by the Circleville Fire Department.
