All week I've enjoyed seeing posts on social media recognizing Teacher Appreciation Week. The week started Monday with Bus Driver Appreciation Day and Tuesday was designated Teacher Appreciation Day.
For those not in education, it may seem odd to set aside a week to appreciate a profession, but as a former teacher myself, I recall how nice it was as a young professional to be recognized for the job I was doing.
It didn't have to come on a particular day or week; just the acknowledgement by parents that they appreciated what I was doing helping their children to learn and grow was rewarding.
Today, I occasionally hear from past students who thank me for something that I did that has stuck with them all these years. That is a wonderful feeling.
Thanks to social media, I'm able to keep up with former students. Reconnecting with them has allowed me to take pride in their accomplishments.
While it's called Teacher Appreciation Week, I like to broaden the scope to include all of those who work in the field of education. From the time a student boards the bus to time spent in the building - from the classroom to the cafeteria to the playground - every adult who has contact with the student is teaching something to the child.
Thank you - everyone - for the support you provide to the students who attend our county's schools! I appreciate everything you do and hope you enjoyed your week.
