Per Jim's wishes, cremation has taken place.

Jim was born on Nov. 17, 1949, in Columbus. James was the son of the late Harold and Peggy Chapin.

He passed away unexpectedly at home on Aug. 23, 2015.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He retired from Overnight Transportation. He was a member of the Friendly Freewill Baptist Church, Moose Lodge 11 and the American Legion Post 417.

He was 100 percent pure BUCKEYE and enjoyed street rodding, trains, playing Santa, and singing and dancing. He was the "Life of the Party!" He was also passionate about his love for the Lord. Most important in his life was spending time with his loving family and many friends.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Mary Ann (Hill) Chapin; and daughters, Candy (Tony) Stewart of Mt. Sterling, Angie (Carl Cunningham) Stage of Mt. Sterling, Brandy (Brian Lowe) Burgoon of Mt. Sterling and Jamie (Josh) Barnett of Trenton. He was a loving grandfather to Salena, Ciara, Savannah, Austin, Dylan, Dustin, Kristin, Skylar, Jazlynne, Gemma and Jaxson. He is also survived by a sister, Barb (Richard) Sheets of Harrisburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. James also leaves behind his loving companions, Roxie and Harley.

James will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Heaven received our "Hero," but we will continue to cherish every moment we had with him.

Those who wish may make contributions in memory of Jim to the Mt. Sterling Community Center, envelopes will be available. Arrangements made by Porter-Tidd Funeral Home.
