John C. "Jack" Stokes, 94, of New Holland, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015, at 3:25 a.m. at his home.
Jack was born Nov. 12, 1920, in Mount Union, Pennsylvania, and was the son of Clarence James and Mabel Blanche Stewart Stokes.
He lived his younger life in Pennsylvania, was a graduate of Penn Township High School in Nixon, Pennsylvania, and moved to New Holland on June 1, 1954.
He was a maintenance supervisor at PPG Industries in Circleville for over 25 years before his retirement in 1988. He also had worked at the General Electric Lamp Plant in Circleville. He formerly had served on the Selective Service draft boards in Butler, Pennsylvania, and Pickaway County, Ohio.
He was a member of the New Holland United Methodist Church, New Holland Lodge F & AM #392 and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He thoroughly enjoyed working in his yard and garden.
He was preceded in death by his two daughters, Nancy Jean Holloway on July 10, 2012, and her husband, Paul F. Holloway on Dec. 15, 2010, and Carol Sue Arnold on Oct. 28, 2007; and a brother and sister-in-law, Donald J. and Doris Stokes.
Jack is survived by his wife, the former Jean Allison, whom he married Oct. 27, 1941; four grandchildren, Mark Holloway and his wife, Susan, of New Holland, Lori Wehner, Army Stump and her husband, John, and April Arnold and her fiancée, Marion Blake, all of Washington Court House; four great-grandchildren, Christopher Wehner and his wife, Tori, of Washington Court House, Bradley Holloway of New Holland, Sarah Holloway Day and her husband, D.J. of Loveland, and Lindsey Nicole Stump of Washington Court House; a son-in-law, Howard Arnold of Washington Court House; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015, at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in New Holland with the Rev. Dr. Michael B. Thompson, pastor at the New Holland United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in New Holland Cemetery.
Friends may call from noon until the time of service at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home in New Holland.
