CIRCLEVILLE - A local man is being held in the Pickaway County Jail after allegedly assaulting another man with a knife Friday afternoon.

Jamie D. Neff, 34, of West Franklin Street, is charged with felonious assault and carrying a concealed weapon in the incident that happened about 4 p.m. Friday, according to Sgt. Shawn Baer, acting chief of the Circleville Police Department.

Baer said officers were dispatched to 409 Faye Avenue about 5:08 p.m. to speak with the resident, Kevin C. Pennington, 34, who reported he had been attacked by Neff in the area of Huston and Scioto streets about an hour before.

According to reports, Pennington was driving in the area when he spotted Neff walking and got out of his truck to confront Neff about derogatory comments he had made about Pennington's family.

Pennington told officers Neff then pulled a knife out of his pocket and began swinging it, and Pennington threw a couple of punches before attempting to flee.

Pennington suffered a stab wound on his left inner bicep, a cut on his left tricep and lacerations on the bridge of his nose and his left ear in the incident. He declined treatment from EMS crews and advised he would drive himself to the hospital.

Following the report, Officer Lance Canterbury reportedly located Neff in the 600 block of South Scioto Street, and advised Neff said he knew nothing about the incident. Upon further investigation, though, officers say they discovered a yellow comb in Neff's back pocket that contained a concealed four-inch blade, and a credit-card sized piece of plastic in his wallet that also concealed a small blade.

In addition to the two felony charges, Neff also is being held on an earlier warrant for possession of criminal tools in an unrelated case.
