CIRCLEVILLE - A mobile home is considered a total loss after a fire Sunday afternoon in Elsea's Mobile Home Village.

According to Lt. Dave Robertson, Circleville Fire Department, the fire was quickly controlled after crews were called in about 12:34 p.m. Sunday at 227 Parklawn Dr.

"We saw minimal smoke when we got there, but once we opened the door, we realized the living room was basically burnt," Robertson said. "The fire was contained to one room, but there was heat and smoke damage to the rest of the trailer. I'd call it a total loss."

Robertson said all the doors and windows were closed as central air was running inside the trailer, but the neighbors spotted the problem when a living room window broke from the heat and began venting smoke outside.

Jeff Spencer, the homeowner, said he lives alone and was at work when he was alerted of the fire at his residence. He said he believes the fire was electrical.

He said he carries insurance on the property and declined assistance from the American Red Cross.

"I have places I can go," Spencer said. "I just don't know where I'm going to live now."

Captain Arron Kerns said there were just five firefighters on duty at the time of the call, but Circleville crews were able to extinguish the fire without mutual aid.

Usually on such a call, the fire department sends an engine and the tower to make sure they have all necessary equipment on hand, Kerns said. The tower does not fit inside Elsea's, however, and there are no fire hydrants in the park, so two engines were used to supply water and fight the blaze.
