ASHVILLE - The Pickaway County Relay for Life event is set to kick off Saturday with opening ceremonies at noon on the track at Teays Valley High School.
Though usually an overnight event, this year's Relay will run from noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday only with a fundraising goal of $41,000.
"We have raised over $11,000 to date but are short of the 2015 goal," said Debbi McCoy, one of the event coordinators. "This includes 21 teams consisting of over 150 participants."
A variety of activities will be hosted throughout the day, including a cruise-in, corn hole tournament and kids' crafts.
McCoy said the luminaria ceremony to honor or memorialize a loved one or caregiver is always a popular feature of Relay for Life, and those can be purchased up to minutes before the ceremony begins at 9 p.m. Saturday to close out the event.
