CIRCLEVILLE - Senator Bob Peterson is being treated in a Columbus hospital for injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash on I-71 in Pickaway County about 9:22 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the West Jefferson Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Peterson, 52, of Sabina, was traveling southbound on Interstate 71 in a 2008 Dodge Caravan when he rear-ended a southbound Peterbilt tractor-trailer driven by Cardy M. Aladino, 60, of Cape Coral, Florida.

Peterson reportedly told emergency crews he was distracted reaching for an item in the passenger seat when the crash occurred.

Peterson was extricated from the vehicle by crews from the Tri-County Fire Department and EMTs from the Mt. Sterling Joint Ambulance District. He was transported by MedFlight to The Ohio State University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The OSHP reports alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the crash.

Representatives in Peterson's Columbus office could offer no further details Wednesday morning.

Peterson represents Ohio Senate District 17, which covers Clinton, Fayette, Gallia, Highland, Jackson, Pike and Ross counties, as well as parts of Lawrence, Vinton and Pickaway counties.
